Lol Each to their own I started with Daz and moved to Poser. I found the lighting effects and so on a lot easier with Poser. It is more powerful than DAZ but does have a bigger learning curve. For a beginner, Daz is a lot easier to use.

I've uploaded a new version of AdventureCreator (2.2).

I wrote this version to support changes needed for the Keeley game Phreaky and I are working on. It supports images that scale with screen resolution and a better scoring system. Beware that the files created with 2.2 won't work in AdventureCreator 2.1. You can use one or the other, but can't really mix them. 2.2 will convert 2.1 files to the new format when you open and save them. For this reason, I've kept 2.1 available. Use at your own risk.

I also wrote a simple tutorial with a backing Word dock. I hope that helps very new users get going with it. I may add other tutorials in the future.

I've uploaded a new version with a new Tutorial. AdventureCreator itself didn't change, but there's now a Tutorial 2 that builds upon Tutorial 1. The second tutorial shows you how to have the player choose what to say and goes into depth on how to set up your images if they're not the same size as those in the tutorial. Let me know if these things are helpful or if people need them changed in some way.

I successfully completed tutorial number 1 on the fourth try. I'm not sure what I did wrong on the first three tries; I probably missed a step.

EDIT: I ran tutorial number 2. After making the screen adjustments to _style.css, _game.js and _style2.css I noticed the hit targets in first.html had to be resized, otherwise the door to 210 would not open.

If you change the image sizes, you need to change the hit targets as well. So you definitely want to decide on the image sizes and lock in that decision before you start laying stuff out.

I'm probably jumping the gun with this question. In my visual novels I often have one image with two or more characters speaking (text, not voice actors).
Do I have to create a new html file for each line of dialog?

Fleet, you can certainly do multiple sentences of dialog on one page, but if you want the player to have branching choices, then you pretty much need a page per branch point.

The convention of "description at the top, things the player does in the image, and things the player says at the bottom" is really just a convention. You're free to have dialog between both the player and the NPC at the top with nothing at the bottom if that works better for you.

The project I'm working on is a kinetic novel, not a "make choices" game. How do I put more than one speech on an html page?
