I agree that the correct word should be 'pubes'(plural) but I felt that its common use detracted from the formality of a polite conversation with Nanny. so I left it in its singular form.
On the 'have been' 'had been' comment. I tend to disgree since 'have been' implies that she is still drugged which is no longer true and 'had been' implies she no longer is drugged which is the case. However I do appreciate close reading comments. I try to keep the English usage a little formal and phrased to maintain a link to its French origin

Ah ok you treat that as a question of register, fair enough. Pubic hair, would serve that purpose too without creating the confuisons for guys like me who didn't know that there is a singular to pubes :-) But thats fine.
However on the tense thing, wouldn't you have to say " i think you were drugged " then?
As the leap from the present tense to past perfect is too far? Or at least uncommon in the english timeline?
As "Past perfect verbs tend to occur in dependant clauses. In this case the simple past tense in the main clause provides the perspective for interpreting the time reference. The event in the dependant clause was completed by the time of the event in the main clause. " (Longman "Student grammar of spoken and written english" 2004)
I know its nit-picking but I am interessted in stuff like that. So i don't ask because i want to annoy you.
If i wanted to annoy you i would say, have been is the only reasonable one as she clearly is still drugged and the effects are merely starting to fade which is clearly indicated by her not being able to keep her eyes open at the first try. ;-)
But i am not saying that *g*
Fair enough. For me 'I think you were drugged..' and 'had been',are equally ok
