ok, in answer to your questions here are some pointers about the objects that I have found so far. Try using as few of these spoilers as possible and you will find the solving of the puzzles more statisfying.

driftwood, green coconut and dead fish - dynamic. move around the beach areas
grubs - under the moss covered log
clam - in the sea to the south of the sharp rock
sharp rock - static (2north and 4east of start location)
rat - in hole under the dead tree
lobster - in a burrow in the reef
small stick - found in the north eastern jungle area, (can be modified to sharpen it)
grass - found on bluff
fruit found in bushes to the south of bluff
pad + battery - found in wreck

there is one weapon of choice for killing any of the wildlife you need to eat and that is your stick. The sea creatures can be baited with a sea based food source that you don't fancy eating and the land based creature can be baited with something that it might eat normally that is found on the land

some problems you can encounter are: lobster and rat hunting are unsuccessful if you don't examine the burrow/hole before baiting them. Also check the readme for the correct verb for how to kill them (also useful for coconut consumption)
Another issue is with the fire-lighting. From the list of objects I'm sure you can work out what can be burnt but make sure to have a look in your inventory and refer to the initial fire-starting material by that name and not any other...If you struggle with the mechanics of fire lighting check the internet for which objects in your inventory you might use to do it. The other bit that took me a while was finding the power source. If you enter the wreck you should notice that something pokes you in the back as you bob against the ceiling of the cabin, I wonder what that is?

The fire lighting puzzle was the one I wrestled with, it is a actual real technique but the average person probably would not know about it..I decided that you as the person stuck on the island do not have the luxury of a easier way since survival is usually not easy..so I kept it the way it is ;)

Thanks for the help, I had made the mistake of not examining the burrow but I had examined the coral which was enough to draw out the lobster, just not enough to catch it.

As for the fire

I know of the ignition scource, I actually saw that Mythbusters episode again recently so I can create the ember, grow it into a flame but I cannot work out the verb for moving the flame onto the driftwood, if the driftwood is even the main fuel for the fire

hmm, i'm still not winning...

I'd had managed to get to the 5th day before I found the wreck and I had spotted the boat (our hopeful salvation) and that was eating raw food only. Now however, I seem to die of malnutrition on my last sleep and I don't have the option of attempting to use my new fire-making skills to signal the boat and get rescued, hopefully by a hoard of beautiful and lustful women...

Anyone managed to win yet?

to save people some trial and error, to get to the 5th day in one piece make sure you eat 3 hearty meals at least during the first 4 days..also use common sense in what you eat or there may be serious repercussions. looking forward to seeing who the first person is to win the game.

finally won it!

The 3 meals advice was my problem. Maybe it's a bug but you can't have more than 3 meals it seems, so you have to wait until you are hungry always before eating.

Maureen was nice. Good game Lamont.

There are some small things you can eat but they do not really count (or help you survive) there are 3 larger things to eat but if you wanted too you could eat them all on the first day or second or third..when is really not important just as long as you do so before going to sleep on day 4. Also 2 of the 3 things could be eaten raw without much trouble but one of them needs to be cooked or you will be in bad shape.

Good job, this game was not easy. There are 2 endings, one if you leave the island in the same financial shape as you arrived and one if you leave a little better off ;)

Did anyone find anything interesting in the cave under the bluff?

I think the problem is that the lobster respawns and can be caught and ate repeatedly. I'm pretty sure I had the other two mealy food sources too when I ate lots of lobsters and it still told me I was malnourished.
The solution seemed to be to eat the tasty three once each.

I'm curious about that too, when I tested the game, I initially searched for things repeatedly to see if they respawned, but never thought to check for lobster until after the game was released. Never got anywhere with the "new" lobster while trying at various times of day. The dead fish respawns at the reef, and you can put it in the burrow and the game give you the same message about the lobster respawning. Whenever I tried to stab it, it said "I cannot see any such thing." So I figured it was just the response to the "x burrow" and figured it was not really there.

Okay, i figured it out. You have to x burrow again, then drop the fish, then you have infinite lobsters.
