With that I mean the darkness of surfaces that are not directly lit by your directional light. As an example I cut out the arm of your render: http://uppix.net/7/2/a/d330731d069ea905fa2070fa27750.png. At the bottom you'll see a gradient to almost all black. And that's something you'll never see because in real life there's always light bouncing off the environment. And that's something you can correct for by using ambient light (even without AO).

It's also very prominently visible on the face, if you switch back and forth between my examples from my last post you'll see what I mean.
