I guess the question is then, does the effect you're looking for occur naturally in real life? And if so, can you duplicate that environment with the tools you have at hand?

Unless, I'd imagine, you use a non-biased render engine you may not get the full effect of the 'bloom' from the light. You may be able to get either Firefly (Poser) or 3Delight (DAZ Studio) to replicate it partially but there's be a lot of faffing about and probably using the highest render settings which will take ages (but then again using a non-biased render engine will also take ages - probably longer!)

I love it. It's a bridge between Daz Studio and Luxrender, which is a non-biased rendering engine (mentioned by Ehlanna earlier). You can get some fantastic scenes pretty quickly with just one or two lights. Results are heavily dependant on your material settings though. You can spend ages tinkering with specular and transparancy settings. Check out the videos at http://www.preta3d.com

Edit again: I just stopped a render of a different set at 5000 samples/pixel and it's just WOAH!

The girl with the roses tattoo is now ready in poster format and it took around a week to render. It seems that 6GB RAM is not really that much when rendering at 2300x3450 pixels.

Did you have any scenery around the model, or was it just empty space? Also what kind of lighting did you use? For a portrait Lux works much faster if you build a set around your model. Also use the gobo lights included in Reality, or even a simple plane set as a light, rather than a sun and sky setup.

Yes there is more around her: two trees with non-opaque textures which may have consumed quite some time. The light is a standard luxrender sun light, I'll try a different one next time.
By the way I posted the result in the sexy girls forum.

My guess is that it was the resolution or a bug that killed the most time. I had to restart the renderer several times because it nearly came to a halt without any CPU consumption.

This was done with DS3A with LuxRender being used as the render engine, and it wnet through pretty quickly (it ran at around 80-90kS/s (the general rate of progression of the render)) to a total of 2 kS/p (the total overall progress). I can't recall how long it took but it was around 4 or 5 hours?

How big was the result? I experienced a big performance drop when you try to render in higher resolutions like the 7.6 MPixels used for the poster.
