Sorry, but I can't understand you: You said, you can't open the downloaded files with another program except firefox or IE. Why do you not want to open the files with the programmes, which work?

Assuming he downloaded both parts from IOH then I suggest winrar as the tool of choice to unpack the game.
Note that winrar does NOT open these files. It UNPACKS them giving you a working executable.

Yes, I think, TrenchCart, you are right. For me it was too self-understanding, that a rar-file must be unpacked first. If Winrar is installed, you only have to put all the parts of the game in one folder, then right click on part 1, and choose from the popup menu "unpack here". Then all the parts will automatically get unpacked in a newly created folder. When opening the folder, you find the game file(s) inside.

This was not for you, TrenchCart, I think, you know all this, but it should described once, so that all non-knowing players can have a working procedure.

If anybody doesn't have win-rar (it's only free for 40 days), you can look by google for "free RAR Extract Frog". That works pretty good.

For unnpacking rar files, you can also take 7zip. It's freeware also and can be found with google.
