For those interested, I just checked and yawner is correct, username and email are enough to allow you to login to epoch and see your account activity. It does not seem to allow you to do anything else (or I am missing something), but it will display old and current places to which you have subscribed and their expiration date. Seems epoch should tighten that a bit.

I sent him my log-in info & e-mail yesterday? Two days ago? and I'm already back on VDG Offsite. It was quick & painless.

That's good question. It's not beliveable that billing service don't give any (where any means things necessary to contact, like email address) info about custormers or have it own way to contact them.

Furthermore with such data - email, username (without password) - it's possible to login at epoch.com as a customer and have access to all previous payments and ones that will be made.

He has emails too? Then great "confirmation" would be sending by chaotic even new/generated/random password to every user. Not the other way.

PS. Right now it's not even 4 months, but 112 days.

Anyone found a way round this or have others successfully had their "lifetime" accounts reactivated? I'm feeling really apathetic towards chaotic after this ripoff so not sure if I'll extend anyway

My "lifetime" status was turned back on but for the Offsite, I think it is now only for 4 months. Which should be ending soon.

I would guess the worst you could accuse Chaotic of was naivety.

He doesn't seem to have understood how the 'pay service' he used actually worked.

His blog explains what happened and what he is doing about it.

Regardless of the reasons things turned out like this, the worst you can accuse him of is still fraud. We should assume it wasn't intentional, but his 'solution' isn't what people initially payed for. I think it's already been said before that if someone actually were to sue him over this he'd have nothing to stand on.

I wasn't disputing that it was wrong - I would hope if anyone wanted to challenge him strongly he would refund their money.

I suppose it is like everything that goes wrong - you decide if it is worth the hassle of your time and effort against the amount of money involved, and how aggrieved you are - pride & principle etc.
