No, you haven't to use anything to get past the spider. It's only a question of position and timing.
You can collect all the flowers (and see many subliminal pictures), but only one can get past this level. Naturally, it's the most difficult to get But i think you can't find it yet...

When u climb the tree and start swinging on the vine buy using your left and right arrow keys, swing as high as you can when u are going backwards at the very top of the swing let go, you will fly over the spider , but start walking right away..hope that helps

Window with 2 white flowers up high has two vines, one obvious. There is a tree to climb.
