I'm not taking requests, I was quoting a couple of posts that Goblinboy made on the Yahoo AIF group.

As you can see from those quotes, while an expansion to SD3 is *possible*, it's not certain and it's definitely not going to happen soon. And a sequel to SD3 is almost certainly not going to happen at all.

The main limitations to any expansion to SD3 are the amount of work involved (and some of the suggestions that were made on the AIF group would involve a *lot* of work, eg. having Yuki at the party), and the effect on "game structure, dynamic and theme".

Hope that makes sense. And as always, if you have any feedback on the game please send it to Goblinboy. I'm sure he'd be very happy to know that you think it's the best game ever, but if you only post it here I doubt he'd ever read it.

@ExLibris
What's the deal with your avatar? It looks kind of familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on it...

The picture is Robert Pattinson as Edward from the Twilight movie, and the words are a quote from Donnie Darko ('sparkle motion' being a term sometimes applied to the more insane aspects of Twilight fandom, which is most of them).

I'm about as much of a fan of the Twilight books as Robert Pattinson is, but I do enjoy mocking them.

@ExLibris ok ty for the info, do you know where i can give goblinboy some feedback about the game? cus i've been looking on yahoo groups but when i clicked on his name i just get an error page.
I'll release it soon, though... When I get round to testing it. (Unless anyone wants to volunteer?)

i've never done testing before but for school dreams i would love to give it a try, so if you need anyone to test it let me know.

"Please email comments or suggestions to: goblinboy2@yahoo.co.uk"

There should be a file called notes.txt included in the zipfile with the game, which is where the above is quoted from.

Seeing that this topic is almost dead, thought I might add one more query. Where does Goblinboy get the images for the game? They are probably taken from a game or 3D rendering program but I can't quite seem to pin it down.

@magnilan
Here's a quote from a post Goblinboy made on the aifarchive mailing list:

"Someone asked what models I am using, and if I had trouble getting them to interact with props. I am mainly using Victoria 4.2 and Michael 3. Which probably isn't what you meant. Unlike K2E I am not using pictures of real models - these are all 3D graphics painstakingly created by Goblinboy himself. As such, I can get them to do whatever I want, wear what I want, use what props I want... as long as I have 3D models for them, of course - and I have a pretty extensive collection now (although I did not have so many when I started, so some of the later pictures are better than some of the earlier ones...). For an early look at the sort of thing I mean, see the pictures in my Ghost game. But the ones in SD3 are much better on the whole, I think. (I was new to the whole 3D modelling thing with Ghost and didn't have many models. It's all much better now). Depending on the complexity of the picture they can take anywhere from 30mins to 3 hours to create. And with 200 pictures, yes it took away bunches of my writing time. Sorry about that. :) I don't know if I will do anything this graphically intensive again..."

So DAZ 3D is what he used.

Hmm... Interesting... Thanks ExLibris. I was actually considering the possibility of creating and adding images to the Camping Trip and SD2. Figured it would make things more visually appealing. Got to find out where to get it and see if I can get it to work. If time allows and with the author's permission.

Definitely get the author's permission first.

This also came up on the aifarchive list two or three weeks ago.
Goblinboy said "I had actually considered revisiting SD1 and 2 and adding pictures. Then I wondered if it would be worth the hours and hours it would take to create them when pictures seem to be greeted with a mixed reaction anyway. In the end I put the idea on the 'maybe one day' shelf and decided to get on with GoP3. Then I got sidetracked from that by another game..."

For what it's worth, my personal opinion is that having images in a text adventure is something of a double-edged sword. Some people are going to like them, and some aren't, and that's especially the case the computer-created images. But if Goblinboy says yes, best of luck to you!

Thanks for the advice Exlibris but I have to be honest, it was just a thought. I hope no one out there gets excited about it (probably no one), just briefly considered it based on my personal opinon. I ma or may not go through with it and if I were to do so, I will definitely go through GoblinBoy before anything. Frankly, I'm an amateur at this so it will take some time. Thanks again!

it would be great if you could find the time to add some pictures to the first 2 games, but if possible keep the same faces as in the 3rd game, maybe younger
good luck

I should probably point out that pictures are the *only* thing that can easily be added to either Camping Trip or SD2, since the links for the images already exist in the code of the games.

Adding additional endings or changing the game in any other way is impossible unless Goblinboy releases the source code (which he's already said he doesn't plan on doing). It would be pretty difficult even if he did, as the source code is spread over multiple files, and by his own admission it's not very well commented.

It would probably be easier to create your own code from scratch. In fact I'd definitely encourage that if you feel inspired, as the AIF community can always use new authors. TADS and Inform 7 have a lot of documentation available if you want to learn. There's also ADRIFT and RAGS, which aren't quite as powerful but are more user friendly (since all the programming is done via an interface).

Best of luck to any budding authors out there.

If you wnat to get started try the ad-link for DAZ3D on the main page of the lagoon. Or simply go to www.daz3d.com.

The basic software and a large number of models are completely free.
