Once again I can feel for you, I consider myself very lucky when it gets to render speed. The last post I did rendered in about 4 minutes, which is a long time for one of my renders. I don't usually check my computer while it is rendering but, I did on the last one. I run a 3.4 Ghz i7 intel quad core processor with partioned to run as 8 processors ( I think I said that correctly) along with 8 gigs of ram and a 1 gig ram on (not shared) video card. I must say I was surprised to find the processor peg at 100% and the ram running at 85% capacity during the rendering. Of course the more light sources and shadowing greatly effect the render time but you coud possible reduce resolution to shorten the render time. See isn't this fun!

It's the hair that'll get you, even if you properly optimize it to not be included in the raytracing, and especially in such a close up. But as a comparison I did a render with a reduced shading rate, which cut the time to about 20 minutes (and that's on a 2.8 Ghz hexa core CPU, what you describe sounds like an intel i7, they do perform quite a bit better at raytracing). It's the detail in the hair that gets me though, it was mainly what I was trying to get better in this render (and if you compare it to "standard" settings it's a day and night difference ). But in the end I wonder if a render time of 1 hour per image should get in the way of people using this level of quality in for example the dating games (assuming you can do fast preview renders of course). Compared to the time you'd spend posing images an hour is not that much I think.

Maybe I stand a chance of getting to grips with Daz at last! -- Not only will I be taking possession of a brand new Dell XPS 17 with a 2.2GHz i7 quad core and a 1920X1080 screen on Monday, but my hair is thinning (fur is falling out?) so my renders should complete at express speed if The Brain is right (see above)!

Now at last I will be able to produce digital art that will make Ursula the Sea Witch seem positively beautiful in comparison, and the occupants of the Lagoon will look on in wonder (appalled disbelief?) while I slink away with my tail dragging.

Thanks all, you all make me feel sooo obsolete with my pentium4 over clocked at 1.5 Ghz and 2 gigs of ram with an additional 1 gig on the video card.

You know what they say? "It ain't what you've got, it's the way that you use it!" I'm afraid that my ability will be out of its depth with this new beast and be more suited to the Asus EeePC I normally use, with its 10.1" 1024X600 screen, its underclocked 1.6 GHz Atom CPU, and RAM that I upgraded from the default 1 GB to the maximum possible 2 GB.

If you take my advice, Hey Chief, you'll stick to your walker and laugh into your prune juice while I fall off my Segway of a machine! It'll probably end up as principally a word processor for working on my hobby of writing incomplete erotic/porn stories for my own amusement.

My primary hope is to generate images of my main protagonists and maybe inspire myself to bring more than a handful of my stories to completion -- playing around with interesting poses would be an added bonus, but the talent around here provides an awe inspiring target to aim for.

Still it would be a shame if I can't use this crittur to the max, otherwise it will be like only getting out the Lambo or the Veyron for the school run and the shops -- a bit OTT!

Once again playing around, no nudity or 69 (sorry.. :P). Just wondering what you guys think of this face. The final render took 1.5 hours, so I realize now why people don't encorporate graphics like this into their games (but in my opinion they should ).

Very nice face. dimensions are good, skin texture and colour are fine, hair is OK. Good use of shades.
The eyes are good (structure,colour), but could be more vivid?
