First of all: Lighten up! I used a smiley.

First of all I've seen the smiley, after the word "bug".

Second you shout to a moderator : "Stop saying this". If you don't know using capitals or underlines means shouting. If the smiley was placed immediately after this sentence, it could reduce the effect of the shout. Where it was placed it can only mean that you were praising yourself.

Agree with Graen I've underlined a few times just as a way to say take note, or pay attention too etc, but not a means of shouting

Actually Squeeky both netiquette and/or etiquette are pretty much one in the same
as for underlining or italicising both are acceptable

As for emoticons or smileys I find using the more obvious ones better especially in the case of a newbie , with older members its easier to know if there just kidding or do find something annoying,rude,frustrating etc

although some may see things differently in there true intent meaning !
but there is a flaw with the smileys category and what they mean 'just my opinion'
ex: Sarcastic= 'should mean saying thanks or friendly reply or saying not sure or what can I say or do !

But no matter what you say or mean there will always be someone to contradict you
