Indeed, the games are increasingly difficult... and perhaps it is time to stop this progression. By looking at the comments about "whakawai" , I think that the most of the players needed an help for finishing the game. And I speak about the experienced players who know the mechanism of my games. I think that the next game will have less traps.... What about ?

Although I havent played "whakawai" yet, I disagree about you maybe wanting to make the games easier Shark most experienced or not so much have at least played a few of your quality games and know or at least should know not to always expect the obvious next move, but this is what makes your games so popular, HA1 wasn't that easy the first time I ever played one of your games, DS and getting the basement ending got me quite a few times as H4 with Kenny's mother coming in to check on her boy:-) yeah I got stuck more then once but knew I was missing something, all this to say why make a game like most others that you can play through in an hour or so, its not like you mass produce your games, so if it takes a day or a week what the hell there fun and that whats makes Sharks games unique Image

I agree with Rikwar - PLEASE don't dumb-down your games!!

There are some other changes you might make, like giving more hints to the code word in the context of the game, but in my humble opinion, there are QUITE ENOUGH games along the lines of "Meet and Fuck" for those who are inclined in that direction.

The traps, bad endings, and the THOUGHT required to get through your games are what make them unique, interesting, and FUN!!

I'll do what I can to help the pilot fish find their way through your games (per other threads) but I'd be SORELY disappointed if you changed your game mechanics to meet the lowest common denominator's needs.

Keep up the good work, Shark Image

As with Rikwar and Newdood I'm echo their thoughts. You began your games simply and as you have gained more skills and knowledge of your software, been able to utilise ideas passed on to you, so have your games become less trivial.

To not continue on this path with lead only to total predictability and therefore games lacking of interest.

You might care to make an "Announcement" General Advice for Playing Shark Games. My comment here would barely serve as a base but you could include things that mention the linked cursor actions, items necessary may be hidden (cream
Ahoroa uses for massage), odd looking item in scene (feather on desk in Late Night at the Office), considering backtracking to what may have caused a "bad ending", check what the characters may be saying as a guide for what the character may/may not want to do.

A video collection as a compiled "walkthrough" of snippets from previous games might be an additional support.

Let your games evolve naturally, don't compromise and so stifle your creativity.

The 3 gents comments ahead of me echo my thoughts too.
Remora IMO are the problem as they always have been. They seem unwilling to READ or even try to help themselves.
Simplifying the games will not stop this behavior. A more obvious link to the help word may be necessary.
Perhaps Arnulf should prepare a video walk through that only the Mods have a link to and it be supplied through PMs only. Shut-up and watch the movie!!! Please pass the pop corn.

Walkthrough via PM?? Certainly it could reduce so many incessant questions of the same thing, but I think that to PM everyone who had a question could be genuinely insult when if all they really want is a subtle push (yes I know we have those who want to be spoon-fed).

IMO MOST remora want to be spoon fed; else they would get off their ass and READ!!!
Those that do not need only watch until their question is answered. Put it on site where it cannot be downloaded only accessed.

It would lighten your load too. If I were you I would have a few responses saved to a Word document that I could copy and paste in a nano-second. The majority of questions revolve around the same points anyway; as do the incessant screams for HELP!!!

Folks, I have to state, that I've finished the video-walkthroughs for the Whakawai games. But a long as they don't be accessible in the general for each lagooner, you have to understand, that I not be willing to make such walkthroughs accesible!

Points taken.

My initial thought was to compile a thread in which only one edited comment was allowed, eg:

She's on her bed.
Comment: She wearing shoes?
#*#
Skirt won't lift:
Comment; [whatever]

Received fictitious question:
Ankles, thighs good, but get to skirt, meter goes down!
Comment: Seen her knee tattoo?

Using editorial rights I'd locate the boxed area to #*#.

I'd be then in my right to ignore (if my site I'd even delete such superfluous questions when the 'answer' per se is there).

Shark, by the way, I'm fully in agreement with the skilled lagooners. They say: please keep on programming your games as they have a slightly increasing difficulty! All in all this makes them attractive.

with the fun i got playing HA 4, my opinion is keep that level of difficulty. the idea of putting password for scene, i also like that ; we can play 2h on one scene, be back next day and continue at the same place. some hints can be give in speech box could be an idea.

I would say keep it a mix. Don't make all your games hard, leave some accessible to new people. Or... work on implementing a learning curve like you did with Scene 2 in HA4. There the player was told specifically what to do, and then later in the scene the player had to repeat those actions and then add to them to progress in the story.

Just my quick thought...

Sorry Big Guy, I did not consider the reward you get for downloads.
Squeeks maybe separate threads with hints (paste the link). If memory serves there are less than 6 main sticking points. I keep hoping we will evolve to citing individual posts rather than an entire page but that will not happen with AceBoard.

Edited to give Arnulf his justly deserved recognition.
Squeeks if you do that lock them (read only) or soon they will contain no mystery.
