When did you start playing adult-themed games and why?

So my wife was shoulder surfing and asking what I was playing...I was playing an adult-themed game (Seduce Me) and told her about it. She asked why I played adult games. I laughed and said she should know, she married a pervert. She laughed and walked away (whew). I didn't have to pull the "well you read Literotica stories" card out. I really should give her Redemption for Jessika to play...she' probably enjoy that.
I had to think about it. I've been a (mostly) PC gamer my entire life (and I'm in my late 40's now). I typically play shooters (Duke Nukem 3d, Doom, Call of Duty, Battlefield series, etc) and occasionally, a builder type game (SimCity, Railroad Tycoon, Sid Meier's Civilization, etc). Never RPGs. Sports games always on a console. Anyway, I honestly don't get aroused by the adult games I play...I just find them more entertaining in terms of fantasy than most adventure/dating type sims. Characters get laid like Charlie Sheen without the consequences. Reminds me when I was a young man...except I never got laid that much and I certainly don't have the consequences.
I started my foray into adult-themed games back in the 80's with Leisure Suit Larry (and all the sequels). Then there was nothing...up until 7-8 years ago when I another forum mentioned a adult TADS game and started playing it which led to me seeking out more in the AIF Community. Playing a text-based game wasn't really new to me...I started on the PC in the early 80's when almost all games were that way.
So I started thinking about which authors produced games I consistently enjoyed. Goblinboy, BBBen, Tlareo and Mortz, Akabur, and of course paid sites like pusooey, Shark, and LoP/S&G. What do they have in common? The answer to that question is simple. It's the stories.
For example, Goblinboy's stories were elaborate and somewhat bizarre (Meteor, The Tesliss Equation)...and going for the easy sex was not always the best choice. Tlareo and Mortz's stories have heart...more than any other adult games I've played. BBBen's stories are a lot of fun and challenging (surrounded by hot women...some mystery and figure out how to nail them all). Akabur's stories are funny...tongue-firmly-in-cheek funny...I've LOLd a number of times playing his games. For the paid sites...it's all about the story (but the key here is feeling like it's a complete story), otherwise it's not with the monetary investment.
You can draw the most beautiful women having the hottest sex, but there's plenty of places to find that outside a game. Without the story, there's no reason to play. That's my take.
To the gamers: How did you start playing adult-themed games and why do you play them?
To the authors: how did you start writing/animating adult-themes and what attracted you to the genre?
