A quiet place at the lagoon side for speaking about all and nothing (the financial crisis, sex, your country, sex, hobbies, or...sex)

The Beach has been quiet so I decided to post a link to video that may get the attention of the guys. This is a song of one of my childhood favorite bands, the English blues/rock band Cream. This song, "Tales of Brave Ulysses" was not a big hit, but I come to like it a lot. It's a trippy song both musically and lyrically, but it's pretty cool. This part of the song reminds me of Shark's Lagoon:

And the colors of the sea blind your eyes with trembling mermaids,
And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses:
How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing,
For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white-lace lips.

And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-SKalJkcv0

RIP Aretha Franklin, I was never into her music, but Carole King has written literally 100s of hit songs for everyone out there, Carole King is an amazing talent.

Agree on both. I don't have any of Franklin's music, but if I happen to see her on TV I would watch. She was a talent to behold. She would bring power and feeling to her singing and make it seem like it would take little effort.

Carole King is a great song writer, but she did pretty darn good performing also. May favorite is "So Far Away". This one's live so you skip ahead 37 seconds to avoid the introductions of the musicians.

Blowing in the Wind is favorite Peter Paul and Mary song which is so much better than what the songwriter Bob Dylan could do.

For Mary Travers, two songs I really of hers with the group is 500 Miles and Leaving on a Jet Plane.

For Peter Yarrow, his song "Puff the Magic Dragon" is a wonderful song I used to sing with my little brother and sister and later with my kids.

Paul Stookey's "Wedding Song ('There is Love)" is absolutely beautiful. It was sung at my wedding and I performed it at my daughter's wedding during the blending sand art part of their ceremony. It was very emotional singing and playing guitar, but I kept it together. I wasn't as together during the father-daughter dance.

Nice! His voice sounds a little like Bob Dylan's, but this guy could actually sing and enunciate his words.

To be fair there are songs Dylan does that only sounds right if he does it such as "Like a Rolling Stone", "Tangled Up in Blue" and "Rainy Day Women #13 & 35".

In reality, that could be said about many many other singers out there, Whitney Houston is just one example of it, Karen Carpenter is another example also.

I know that song, and being fully honest, Carol King voice is not great at all for that song, sadly now we know of all the signs of the horrible illness that Karen Carpenter had, and yet at the height of her illness she sings this beautiful song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__VQX2Xn7tI

Understandable. Carole King is not a great singer, but there are few songs she does that just work for her. That one worked because of the passion she put into it. "I Feel the Earth Move" is another one of them. It's amazing the jazz soul she has considering she's a Jewish girl from NYC.

Karen Carpenter had a beautiful voice. Such a sultry sound coming from a girl next door personality. The one you posted is my favorite. I posted the song to my daughter's FB page on her wedding night. Little did I know that it was featured in the Stephen King psychological horror movie "1408" which kind of freaked her husband out. Evidently, the song gives the creeps to anyone who saw the movie. I think I'll skip seeing the movie since I don't want it to affect my love for the movie.

I watched that movie alone one night, it was an ok horror, I have seen much much better and more scary horrors though, I can still listen to the song like always, love Karen Carpenter as always, and not get a tie in to some average silly horror movie, tell your daughter and hubby to grow a pair

Well it's December and tis the season. What better time to post links to Christmas songs which I enjoy, but may not get a lot of airplay?

First song is a gem from Chris Squire and Alan White from the progressive rock band Yes. The song, released in 1981, combines orchestration, a children's choir, a nifty tin whistle part at the beginning and some cool bass rifts. One youtube comment put it best "Prog rock goes festive"

I hope you enjoy "Run with the Fox". It is best to play this on a good sound system, to appreciate it's intricacies.
