When did you start playing adult-themed games and why?

Postby Slayer991 » Sat, 16Oct08 08:29

So my wife was shoulder surfing and asking what I was playing...I was playing an adult-themed game (Seduce Me) and told her about it. She asked why I played adult games. I laughed and said she should know, she married a pervert. She laughed and walked away (whew). I didn't have to pull the "well you read Literotica stories" card out. I really should give her Redemption for Jessika to play...she' probably enjoy that.

I had to think about it. I've been a (mostly) PC gamer my entire life (and I'm in my late 40's now). I typically play shooters (Duke Nukem 3d, Doom, Call of Duty, Battlefield series, etc) and occasionally, a builder type game (SimCity, Railroad Tycoon, Sid Meier's Civilization, etc). Never RPGs. Sports games always on a console. Anyway, I honestly don't get aroused by the adult games I play...I just find them more entertaining in terms of fantasy than most adventure/dating type sims. Characters get laid like Charlie Sheen without the consequences. Reminds me when I was a young man...except I never got laid that much and I certainly don't have the consequences.

I started my foray into adult-themed games back in the 80's with Leisure Suit Larry (and all the sequels). Then there was nothing...up until 7-8 years ago when I another forum mentioned a adult TADS game and started playing it which led to me seeking out more in the AIF Community. Playing a text-based game wasn't really new to me...I started on the PC in the early 80's when almost all games were that way.

So I started thinking about which authors produced games I consistently enjoyed. Goblinboy, BBBen, Tlareo and Mortz, Akabur, and of course paid sites like pusooey, Shark, and LoP/S&G. What do they have in common? The answer to that question is simple. It's the stories.

For example, Goblinboy's stories were elaborate and somewhat bizarre (Meteor, The Tesliss Equation)...and going for the easy sex was not always the best choice. Tlareo and Mortz's stories have heart...more than any other adult games I've played. BBBen's stories are a lot of fun and challenging (surrounded by hot women...some mystery and figure out how to nail them all). Akabur's stories are funny...tongue-firmly-in-cheek funny...I've LOLd a number of times playing his games. For the paid sites...it's all about the story (but the key here is feeling like it's a complete story), otherwise it's not with the monetary investment.

You can draw the most beautiful women having the hottest sex, but there's plenty of places to find that outside a game. Without the story, there's no reason to play. That's my take.

To the gamers: How did you start playing adult-themed games and why do you play them?

To the authors: how did you start writing/animating adult-themes and what attracted you to the genre?

I remember stumbling on a game, called Love Hina sim date, back in the day. I was around 13-15 a that time. For today's standards that game is overly simple, maybe even boring, and the "adult" part was a simple kiss animation when you completed a character's route. If you can even call it route.
Why I liked it so much, and why I wanted more games like that? I'm not sure. I didn't even know what Love Hina was. Maybe I'm just a hopeless pervert, but this hobby of ours started that day for me, with that game.

Short story: I was looking for something to fap to

I decided I like 3D graphics for this, and I wanted to see something with a bit of story and anticipation. That led me to Date Ariane, which led to this forum and the Tlaero games. In fact, that was my inspiration to do my own renders.
I post some of my renders here: http://the-new-lagoon.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3589&start=30

Mine was being bored at see on a submarine back in the early 67 or so had made a PC that used a tape deck (7" reel to reel) for storage and had maybe 4k of memory in the machine. every thing was text based can not remember what the games were though.

I grew up during the 80s and all we had then were 3 things.. the playboy channel, magazines, or real girls. Of course, I'd had my share of all 3 and the most interesting, weird, and satisfying of all three were the actual girls themselves so magazines and porn movies went away quick. Fast forward to the latter part of 1999 and I'm in my mid 20s and I'm starting to learn the internet stuff since what I'd known before was DOS, MacIntosh, and windows 3.1, some of 95/98. My roommate had just bought a brand new computer and he was trying out the internet. Took him less than 30 minutes to find porn.
Remember, to get online back then was about a 5 minute job if you're lucky. You had use the modem, make sure nobody was using the phone, dial the modem, get online, and then login to your provider. Then, finally, you get to load this browser page that may or may not take a minute or 2 just to load. Anyways, I was drinking beer with my other buddies and one of them exclaimed "holy bleep bleep!" and my roommate's saying "she's hoooottt". I look over and wow... it's Draghixa Laurent. Boom.. I was in love! Then in 2004, after viewing some assorted pics, crappy videos, or browsing age verification sites occasionally, I came across the first game that captured my attention.. Date Ariane. That in turn lead me to aif, tads, the lagoon, etc.
To me, seeing porn is boring. It's the thrill of the chase and the rewarding of efforts that set the tone so the "action" takes on more meaning.

Why do I like the sexy games for adults?

I think in all honesty because I like the sex under all its forms, set apart the male homosexuality, (no homophobia, just man not my thing(trick), that’s all), but especially because I love the women for all that they have of beautiful and nice and because this kind of games, however paradoxical it can appear, can be a way of paying them tribute.

looking at the sex for the sex is, in my thought, a thing of teenager, a physical support necessary for the visualization of the various fantasies which cross us or obsess us in certain periods of our life.
Arrived at the adulthood, (in my case since already a good package of years), we realize that the sex is an inseparable element of the life, in the same way as to eat, to drink, to sleep and to breathe.
As many I believe, I still like not living even things, discovering new flavors, new places, with new people, and nevertheless continuing to appreciate what I already know...

I began to be interested in the sexy games by discovering the productions of Shark and Pussoy, putting in bin at the same time the Hentaï games and other M&F by too simplistic and primary to my taste.
I liked (and always like) VDG for the pleasure to understand the progress which is going to allow the player to succeed in his quest for the Holy Grail, or more exactly to obtain the favors of one or several Beautiful, in spite of a sometimes excessive… graphics?...

Tlaero and Phreaky began to place the level higher with Kelly, Keisha, Christine, etc. …
I began then searching a little more, tried without believing it too much the AIF games and fell stiff-crazy of the realizations of Goblinboy, for the wealth of the writing and the quality of the scenarios, associating eroticism and unbridled imagination.
I was one of the first ones to glance on the Serge's first attempts and did not delay getting in touch with him, the purpose being to test its realizations before giving them in feed to Lagooners ;) and to propose him a proofreading of his texts or to suggest him some ideas.

And I fell on Dreaming with Elsa, from Tlaero and Mortze, and was enjoyed to discover a gallery of different, complex characters, mixing reality and mystery, the whole supported by a well written story and a drawing that enchant me.
Mortze put back a coat with Pandora, a happiness that this idea to gather this diversity of characters all embarked on the same boat, in search of the mythical Atlantis...
Between two, Serge speaks to me about Brad's Erotic Week, from Wolfshadow, to whom I had not paid a lot of attention, wrongly and... to follow, interesting and really well tied up. Without forgetting Arizona and the kind Carla, the Art history.
Returning of holidays, I discover the last Tlaero and Mortze’s production, Redemption for Jessika, and there, I fall in love at first sight...
This naughty Lady Tlaero managed to make me pour a tear with this totally mesmerizing story, leaving me scotch-taped on my computer's screen till end of the night...

This long diatribe to explain my route in the world of the erotic games, I say Erotic, not porn …
Thanks to all these Artists who treat us of their quality creations, feeding our imagination and our appetite for their realizations always more accomplished, letting us an impatient person discover what will be their next misdeed, and so condemning us, poor junkie's, to show patience while waiting for our next shot …

When I was sixteen or seventeen probably haha. Found arianeb and then some early vdategames. Didn't sign up here till I was technically legal though.

As for why... take a wild guess

As for why I enjoy them more than regular porn, I guess it's just because porn writing isn't good enough. I know,I know, porn formstory but you know why it's important. The secret ending of DWE where Elsa is hesitant about kissing Theresa but wants to is one of the hottest things ever for me because of the writing, for example. And all porn with story tends to be all negative like cheating and the like and I guess I just like good people fucking because I'm a romantic at heart kinda? Guess the Theresa ending and my threesome fetish in general goes against that though...

I suppose it's not surprising at all that many of us discovered this world of erotic gaming thanks to Date Ariane... funny thing in my case was that I found it in a spanish webpage which, at that point, only posted 'ordinary' webgames (they launched an adult version of the site some time later, but then I think they just came across Ariane, failed after a few tries and didn't realize it was actually a sex game and not just an innocent dating sim :D ). Like everybody in this forum, I like the idea of mixing erotism (or porn) and gaming, and that's all.

Well, I like porn and I like games, so it seemed like a good combination. I also prefer there to be some sort of scenario instead of just immediate sex and video games are probably the best medium to explore that sort of thing given that it allows a certain amount of freedom and time constraints aren't usually a concern.

I played my first sex game ages ago. It was a Nintendo-like game about trying to hook up with some girl (perhaps a hooker, i don`t quite recall) in a night club or something. I didn`t like the game. And that`s it. Till few months ago. I started looking for sex games just for fun. Played some. Most of them not even finished. Others played once or twice nothing special. Not too much of a thrill.

While exploring i found Brad`s Erotic Week. That was the hook. Then Dreaming with Elsa and the other sequels. And then Pandora. ArianeB games were fun. Not a very long list. So i`m curious what will happen between Brad and Natalie or Emily/Faith in the next episode. And who is the heroine of the next story of Elsaverse Saga. I`m certain she would be a she, and she would be the inspiration of a guy, and she will lead him to new adventures, and he will follow her with devotion. (That`s the author`s distinctive mark: leading women) Not to forget Pandora cruise.

I played my first adult-themed games when I was about 15. Nearly 2005 or 2006. A game which maybe you guys all have played. simgirls made by blackspears. And a Taiwanese game. I found my first porn webstie at that time too. American one called she can squirt you? Cannot find it now.
I loved those games and webs simply because I was a teenager. Eager and curious with sex. And Im a Chinese gay guy. We cannot have a formal sex education from schools and parents in China even now. It is kind of a taboo to young Chinese. Which is stupid.
I'm really obsessed with Caucasian men's muscular bodies and huge penis. lol I know not every white guy is that hot. But I cannot resist games and porns which have muscular white guys.
But now I play adult games and watch porns only to fullfill sex fantasy. Though I'm gay. My fantasy now is that mature ladies have sex with young muscular guys. I think myself is crazy. But I just love to watch 35-50 years old ladies seduce 18-35 years old muscular men. lol. Only this I can feel phycological orgasm

Interesting stories here, a bit more personal than I'd expect.

I've been playing erotic games on and off. I started in my teens with free sites that are out there, until I grew frustrated with the lack of quality. I'm currently a little too disappointed with the genre, due to the life cycle stage this industry is in. The lack of quality is still pervasive, as most games don't have a good budget.

Anyway, after I discovered some companies that localize Japanese visual novel games, I've been getting more into them, had fun for a while with games like Ultimate Boob Wars, but now again I'm growing disappointed. Even the Japanese market has huge issues. Shit is generic, formulaic, and quality original content is hard to come by. You get frustraded with that.

I'm mostly just playing battle harem games now. Not very sexual, but my lizard brains enjoy it.

First game ever was probably True Love (90s), I can't exactly recall why it started with that, and in fact, I probably didn't even have an idea it was an adult visual novel when I got it. It remains, to this day, one of my favorite adult games. I remember sharing it with my friends and everyone loved it :) It's actually available for free on the web now if you want to play one of the games that really sparked the eroge genre.

Yep! Found it in an old French abandonware site. (The search for sex games was brought on by the sexual tension Hideo created between Snake and Meryl without payoff!)

Searching for a "True Love 95" walkthrough, I found remnants of Aetus Kane's geocities page. That led me to Detonator Orgun's AIF site. Been an AIF fan ever since.
