Great, thanks for the clarification.

V4 and M4 do have the advantage of all the available content. That is enticing. But as stated before a degree of patience is needed.

Should I try to confuse you completly....there are products to use V4/M4 clothing and hairs on Genesis 2 and 3 and this mostly works good... ;)

I would like some clarification. MaxCarna mentioned that Skydome doesn't work with IRay then linked one to IRay Worlds Skydome.

I presume this is different then just Skydome?

Seems odd that the basic wouldn't work and Worlds does. Following the hypothesized logic, what about Skydome Superpak. Is this more closely related to Skydome or Skydome worlds? (ie: any trouble with this one working?)

MaxCarna, you also suggested Wear Them All. At this point I am seeing the wisdom in starting with V7 and M7. At this point I am thinking this makes the most financial sense.

Does Wear Them All work with hairs and eyes and such too or just clothing?

And, you mentioned sticking to (hehe) using Magnetized clothes. I am not seeing this stat/listing in the Details or What's included. What am I missing?

One Last, everyone seems to start with Victoria and Michael. It looks like there are starter bundles for Characters of all different names. Is there a particular reason folks lean towards Vic and Mic?

I think, it's because M4/V4 was their biggest succes, so they usually release M and V in newer generations first. Then the other ones comes afterwards. (That's just my thinking, not something I know.)
That means, there's more custom characters that are based on those models, than from the other ones. (Or atleast, earlier after release).

So, if you have an idea about using specific custom models, then you should checke their requirements first, so you get the right bundle to begin with.

There is a thing called Skydome as an "object" in daz which is/was used as a surrounding sphere/projection surface with their 3Delight renderer and there is a thing called Dome in nvidia iray which is projection surface and lighting source (with hdri images) at once, but this dome is only for iray rendering...I think they called the linked thing Iray Skydome as a reminiscence of the old 3Delight skydome which were many people used to...

Wear them all is for hair and clothing, there are also products to use old V4/M4 character skins/ textures/ morphs on a G3 base model (not sure if I got your question regarding eyes right, but the new characters bring their own eyes with them )...

Image

But this makes only sense if you have started with V4/M4 and have already a stock of nice characters (or if you fell in love with a certain V4/M4 character which isn't available for newer base models... )

I've bought myself all the stuff to transfer characters to newer models although I've started not that long ago, but I would'nt do that again, cause as MaxCarna mentioned, if you wait for sales or "Fast grab" offers, you will get the newer characters at a very low price....

For one of my favorite 3D render artists....sure...

I assume you are talking about the product to use V4 skins for G3F

https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?ViewProduct=113767

I think you know that you could use an plug in of generation x for the morphs itsself...

http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2

http://www.daz3d.com/genx2-addon-for-genesis-3

P.S. Atm only for V4 and not for M4 and I've only experience with the uv mapping tool and not with the morphing tool...have the morphing for V4 to G2F and it works good, but lately I prefer to do my own morphs when I've transferred the skins...

P.P.S.: I've got some V4 skins...if you want to see one in a better image than the posted one as an example just tell me...

Well this was a little bit confusing, Mik already answer but I going to ilustrate. Look in the section "What's included and features".

In the product that I previously suggested http://www.daz3d.com/iray-worlds-skydome they include only presets. Lights, MAT, and so on. The "Skydome" on the name is just a commercial appeal.

Now look this one http://www.daz3d.com/bwc-skies they include 10 skydome (.DUF). In this case this is the object classified as skydome, It is a giant sphere drawing the sky, but Iray light doesn't penetrate it, your render will be all black.

Eldormain wrote:And, you mentioned sticking to (hehe) using Magnetized clothes. I am not seeing this stat/listing in the Details or What's included. What am I missing?

Generaly clothes for V4/M4 are not magnetized, few authors says that in the product page. The daz original items usually has an add-on called "unimesh fits", some example:
http://www.daz3d.com/scoopback-mini-dress
http://www.daz3d.com/scoopback-mini-dress-unimesh-fits

Even using unimesh fits there are limited shapes. I was trying to use a character called SheFreak 4 and it wasn't working . So I found out that I needed this product http://www.daz3d.com/v4-shefreak-4-magnet-fits

Never had this problem with Genesis 2 and Genesis 3.

Eldormain wrote:One Last, everyone seems to start with Victoria and Michael. It looks like there are starter bundles for Characters of all different names. Is there a particular reason folks lean towards Vic and Mic?

I believe it is related to taste, for Genesis 2 female the model that I liked most is Meridiana, that is included on Lilith bundle http://www.daz3d.com/lilith-6-pro-bundle. Aiko 6 is also great http://www.daz3d.com/aiko-6-pro-bundle

For Genesis 3 female I like Olympia 7 http://www.daz3d.com/olympia-7 and her derivated characters like http://www.daz3d.com/myrina-for-olympia-7, http://www.daz3d.com/nathalie-for-olympia-7 and http://www.daz3d.com/annelies-for-olympia-7

If you are working with 4º generation you will necessarily has to start with Michael and Victoria. For genesis there is no rule, start with you liked most, compare bundles. There is always the base character for $44,95, the starter bundle for $89,95 and the pro bundle for $134.95.

If you want Anatomical Elements (penis, vagina) you will need at least one pro bundle, just one is enough for all characters (male/female) of that generation.

Once again, Great. I think this board and you all are quickly becoming my favorite boards.

It sounds like the Worlds Skydome is good. And I would then assume that the Iray SkyDome Super PAK is okay. http://www.daz3d.com/iray-skydome-super-pak

And to the other clarifications it sounds like the Wear Them All would be a decent idea to open up clothing options. However, I think I am going to hold off on that one right now. Since I don't have any 4th gen to convert there isn't a need.

I did a closer look at read at many of the other characters in the 7 gen and quite frankly I think Victoria and Michael are the best looking. I get it about them being the most popular and all, makes sense. I did like Olympia, too, MaxCarna. There was one other I was thinking about but I will probably stick with Vic and Mic as the base models.

And Mortze, in case you were askign for more then the morphs here is the Wear Them All link: http://www.daz3d.com/wear-them-all-auto ... 3-female-s

Cheers,

Eldormain

Carefull, this PAK indicates a required product http://www.daz3d.com/iray-worlds-skydome

I can't say if works alone, but the author don't ensures.

About the characters, Michael 7 and Victoria 7 are good investments, it is gonna be all right.

Good luck in your renders :D

Thank you for the links Mik.
It's a shame that there isn't anything to convert V4 morphs to G3 morphs. I mean, what if I wanted to have Chloe be with the Genesis 3 figure? I doubt there is a way that I could apply Chloe's face morphs to any Genesis figure.

@Mortze

But the second linked product "Generation x2" does exactly the morphing from V4/M4 to Genesis and with the matching addons you are also able to morph to G2/G3...

There was definitely a way to load V4 morphs into the first Genesis. I'll bet there's a way to do it in Genesis 3.

The trouble was, once you imported all the V4 Morphs++ into Genesis, doing things in Genesis was kind of messy because you had both the Gen morphs and the V4 ones. I'd get the Genesis 3 morphs and see how close you can get before looking for a way to import V4. You may find that the more expressive Genesis 3 morphs let you get close enough that it doesn't matter that you don't have the V4s.
