Get Me Pregnant

I was super excited about this game before it came out, and then very disappointed by the critical response. I think there is really one big reason for the disconnect between my impression of how good it was, and the player's impression. The game was conceived of before I got involved. Leo had gotten lots of requests for a game where the girl ends up pregnant, and composed a brief about a quick encounter focused on pregnancy. The pictures were already created before I got involved, and he just wanted someone to write a few dialogue options and action choices to make a short free game out of it. I wasn't interested in following such a set format, but because I saw the cheating wife angle, I thought I could make the story pretty interesting. Also, Rahvin and I had been discussing making a game together where the player could play either the male of the female character, and so this short game seemed like a way to test out that kind of mechanic. It was complicated, but by the time I finished it, I felt I had made optimal use of just a few set images (at the end of the process I did ask Leo to let me add a few more images to suit some of the endings, like the image of the guy taking a picture of the girl - jeez, I already forget their names). By optimal use, I mean that I tried to pack as much story variation as possible into a small amount of set scenes: the game is really 4 versions of the same story, involving either anger, or love on the guys' part, and remorse or sociopathy on the girl's part.

So, making the game the way I wanted was quite a challenge, and I was excited about it because I felt I had succeeded in doing everything I wanted. Hence the disconnect: I was immensely proud at implementing a challenging mechanic and story, but the players, rightly, were only considering how fun it was to play, not how challenging it was to implement. Even so, I did think it would be fun to play, I guess i just overestimated how fun it would be, based on how good I felt about making it work.

Anyway, it's no fun making a game that people don't like that much, but I learned from it, so thanks for all the feedback even if it was disappointing feedback :)

It's in the past now. I'm done making excuses.

I enjoyed playing this game very much!
The image quality of the renders was outstanding and the girl very very sexy!
To me the story of getting the girl pregnant was exiting.
But what this games lacks is some real interaction.
It feels more like a slide show.
To improve the whole thing some more interaction/alternate choices should have been given during the sex scenes. E.g. give player a choice to toggle between several positions and give player control of the movement (how fast and deep to thrust during penetration) etc.
Also some more foreplay options to choose from as well as touching and licking controlled by mouse moves would have make it more a true gaming experience.

So in the end if it feels like the player controls the action it will be more of a gaming experience.

I'd really would like to see a remake of this game introducing some more interaction.

Thanks for sharing this game with us.
Keep up good work!

I really appreciate the insight into the development process. I'd like it if more developers shared their experiences in creating their games.

Like I've said before, there is nothing wrong with Get Me Pregnant itself. Most of the criticism that I've heard from people is that the game was too short, which in itself is a bit of a compliment. If people say it's too short it's because they want more. My particular criticism is that it would have been a lot better if it had a more developed story backing it up. For me when I played it I felt like I was walking in on the ending of a movie. The girl was already in the bedroom and ready to go. Some more story added in to get us to that point would have been appreciated. I equate this game a lot to Casino of Passion. It had a short playable intro scene prior to going back to the player's room with another man's wife. If this game had something similar I have a hard time thinking of legitimate complaints to level against this game. In my head I have the image of the player being invited over to his friends place for dinner or drinks and there is a conversation between you, your friend and his wife about wanting to have a baby. Then your friend's beeper goes off and he gets called away to work (he could work as a firefighter or something similar) and you are left to either talk to the wife or your husband's friend (depending on which character you chose to play) and the game starts there. A conversation still needs to be had to get everyone up to the bedroom ready to make a baby.

As you said the development process wasn't totally under your control and you wanted to add more scenes yourself. Hopefully this experience gets others involved in the games you write to listen to your advice. The fact remains that I can't point to the game and say "this part was bad". All I can do is say "there should have been more". Now that I think of it, I am always advocating for more from all of your games. More iksanabot always makes games better as far as I'm concerned. That in itself is hardly a criticism.

Though I appreciate your words I think you have nothing to explain about the game.

I think users/players (me too, even if I try to think globally about a game) too often just think to how they liked or not the game, without even going too deep about the reasons.
If, on one side of the coin, it can be a good, spontaneous, feedback, on the other one is just a simply way to evaluate something worthy of some more attention.

Just to say to take all the critics not motivated for what they are. You can focus on the ones explaining why, but - as you did here - don't forget your work behind it!

As usual, just my two cents.

From my point of view the game is very short but, it has a wonderful potential with just a shade more of a story. The art work is very good. Keep up the good work.

It's on the playforceone website, listed as one of the latest erotic games on the landing page.

I'm betraying my ignorance about forum rules here: I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a direct link.

As I recall, direct links are only allowed if you're the creator? Otherwise, you're supposed to link to the creator's website or something like that. Don't quote me on that though, I'm not 100% sure.

The way Ncrdrg says it is what I understood too. I think it has more to do with the hosting site getting credit for the traffic than anything else.

I played this game beginning to end, as always both general scene artwork and artwork on girls and guys was great, story was ok, but like others have said, when I started it, it felt like I began the game in the middle somewhere and before I knew it, the game was finished, very short.

Iksanabot, I think you should hold your head up high. Being able to get some story into a game where the pictures are already rendered is a win. And, most importantly, that you wanted to put the story into a short game like this is extremely telling. Most people would have just written some throwaway dialog and called it a day. I understand the disappointment of working hard on something only to have it not be received well though. The feedback is generally on par. Not very much happens in the game, and it's really short. But that doesn't change the fact that you're a great writer and did good work here.

I've only figured out how to get 5 of the 8 endings. I'm hoping one of the 3 endings I haven't discovered is one where Patricia leaves her sterile husband for Tim and they have lots of children. Evolution must be served.
