Anyone else notice VDG is down?

Hopefully this means he's busy putting the new game up, and not something sinister.

I´ve also noticed it and hope the same as you. It would be a shame if the site were down

August 27th - Website Down

Many of you will have noticed that the main VDG website is down. Occasionally there are hiccups on the yahoo end and the site disappears for a day, but when it did not come back, I contacted yahoo.

Apparently my site has been deliberately taken down for violating the terms of service. Unsurprisingly, I am now in talks with yahoo to find out WTF they're talking about, but I may have to move to a different dot com.

The blog and the offsite are both still working so keep checking both of them for new links.

Just wondering..
Can someone tell me what gives Yahoo the right to close down a website like Chaotic's..surely not for its content if that was the case a lot of websites would not exist

Sadly, that kind of behaviour is not unknown from Yahoo.

As to what gives them the right, their terms of service (http://info.yahoo.com/legal/us/yahoo/utos/utos-173.html) make it pretty clear that they "may, without prior notice, immediately terminate, limit your access to or suspend your Yahoo! account, any associated email address, and access to the Yahoo! Services"

So if someone at Yahoo decided that Chaotic's website was obscene for instance they could pull the plug without even telling him.

I really get furious when they do such things without first noticing the creator. Almost the same happened to me on Flickr (also Yahoo) when someone had a complaint about a pubic hair that was shown in one of my pics. For crying out loud it's animations that are shown!!!

Thanks ExLibris although I find this totally absurd that Yahoo as the right to terminate a website without any prior notice or some explanation to its administrator before hand
I did some reading on banning a website and from what I can see its not that easy to shut down a website, as for complaints about obscenity Chaotic doesn't even have any nude pics, but even so other websites can tell you how to hack someones computer or email or how to make a bomb, but dare to show a little skin and there ready to exorcise you

Chaotic should use some good European hosting site not Yahoo. Probably they don't like naked girls - you know - USA has obsession about nudity.

Yahoo mentality!
7.2 Prohibited Uses

In addition to those matters set forth in the Yahoo! Policies, You shall not post, transmit, retransmit, or store material on or through any of the Services which, in the sole judgment of Yahoo! (i) is in violation of any local, state, federal, or foreign law or regulation, (ii) is threatening, obscene, indecent, defamatory, or that otherwise could adversely affect any individual, group, or entity (collectively, ¨Persons¨), or (iii) violates the rights of any person, including rights protected by copyright, trade secret, patent, or other intellectual property or similar laws or regulations including, but not limited to, the installation or distribution of ¨pirated¨ or other software products that are not appropriately licensed for Your use. You agree that you will NOT knowingly use the Service, among other things, to:

* (a) upload, post, email, transmit, or otherwise make available any content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable;

Presumably VDG has succumbed to the weasel-word catch-all of "obscene" or "indecent" after some prude had worked his/her way through all the games, reeled his/her tongue back in and fired off a complaint!

August 31st - Website issues cont'd

So, after numerous emails yahoo is being very uncooperative, essentially sending me copied and pasted replys every time. I therefore have no idea what their problem is and will probably have to move the site.

The offsite is still functioning at www.vdg-offsite.com and remember you can still play all the free games at www.playforceone.com

I'll make some noise when the new site comes online wherever it may be.

If the next game's ready he could post it in his blog... would be nice.

If not then... wait it out I guess. Whole thing seems strange though. We'll see.
