Yep, the one had 'real' images, though they weren't often used. It was one of the games out there that I think would have benefited from having no images at all. They just didn't work well together, things like Ariel from the little mermaid if I recall and others just sort of mashed together. Not enough to make it unplayable or anything - it was still fun - it just didn't work well IMO.
Actually, Goblinboy's game (Gift2) used images only for the main characters in a sidebar (as I recall, his favorite Alison Angel was Dania in this). I think that was the only game where he used real images. He never used cartoon characters that I am aware of, except in maybe non-AIF projects. There was a game that used cartoon images such as Ariel and the like - it was Fan Fantasy. It can be found on Legends of Krystal forum...and it is being remade, according to the creator...
And - editing to get this back on topic - I actually prefer that the creator do what makes most sense for them and brings them the most creative enjoyment, whether it be photo or 2D or 3D - as that way the STORY (emphasis) is what benefits...(just sayin').
PS - "(though I don't know if he did the art himself) " - he did - he redefined AIF and a lot of what we appreciate
PPS - created images do what you want them to do, while photos
with the desired model have to be searched diligently for - where to spend the time???? They both use a lot...and to me, the story and it's telling is paramount
