I though I would open a discussion thread for the new Adrift game by BBBen, Pervert Action: Crisis.

It's different from most AIF, it's more like a roll-play dating-sim game where you have to build up your statistics with various activities etc.
It has a great Anime feel, with the characters and their voices....that's right, voices! He (they) actually used voice actors for all of the main characters and you hear them speak out some of the key scenes.

Like many of the newer AIF games, there are images. In this case, it's just character profiles, no dirty pictures (that I've found anyway).

As per the readme, you can't score with all the girls in one play through, but BBBen has added a great feature to the game...a replay mode. In this mode, you can replay the game without all the long descriptions and blocks of text (or in this case, it's a lot less of 'press any key to continue). So playing the game again and again, isn't as tedious as it is wither other games.

The scoring system is pretty complicated. I've finished the game twice and only ended up with 8% (lost) and 4% (win). It says in the readme that you can't really get a full score, but I must be missing a lot, so all the more reason to keep playing

Well PAC was shown to me by my son-in-law when he visited me today (9:00PM in San Jose CA and started the game before the Dr. cam to check on me. It looks like an excellent game so far but will have to wait to play when I'm released from here on or about the 3rd of July. If anyone has any hints for it I will post then in that section just PM me or submit here on this thread.

Played through twice and have to say its a really good game.

I was a bit dubious about the voices at first (having played a few japanese games) but hearing the voices in ENGLISH was quite refreshing and really added to the effect of the game, great fun!

Its very difficult to "go wrong" in the game. Also there is a secret mode you get for completing the game on characters, so far i have...

Those of you who have the letters but can't figure out the password are going to kick yourselves when you find out what it is. Maybe try plugging the letters into an online anagram generator and see what you get. I guess I'm assuming that anyone who posts here knows the word, but I suppose it's going to be difficult to figure out if you've never heard it before. But again, it's *screamingly* obvious...so much so that I guessed it after only two letters. I think it's too early to just give the word away, personally, but I'm sure someone will eventually post (or PM) it.

I too thought the voices were going to detract, especially as things got amorous. And even though a voice like Hidemi's really does grate on me, since it was the only one I could live with it. Plus, I don't really enjoy stat-building dating games all that much. So I was prepared in all sorts of ways to dislike this game.

I didn't. I really enjoyed it. The writing was clever (sometimes laugh-out-loud funny, like Akemi's question about autonomy), the story was good, the characters were vivid and didn't blend into each other, and the stuff one actually plays for was very well done. It's a shame that if there are ever AIF awards again, this (and British Fox, alas) will end up going against Meteor, because it really deserves an enormous amount of praise. Those are three pretty towering games in the genre, though.

Quibbles? I suppose. I would have liked more done with the art, but the author warns you right up front why that didn't happen. Still, if there's ever an update to this game, that's the one thing I think would really send it over the top.

Also, I understand that the mechanics of the game make it difficult for important events to happen at predictable times, but there are too many days where nothing happens. It could just be background character stuff, maybe not involving the player at all, but once one figures out the fastest way to get to a specific outcome (piling up certain stats while ignoring others), the mechanics of the game virtually assure long periods where absolutely nothing happens. One of the biggest reasons I don't like stat-dating games is exactly this, the rote repetition of actions with no benefit or reward. I don't think it's worth revisiting the game to address this, but I hope it will be considered for the sequel.

Finally, regarding the ending:



A final recommendation, this time to players rather than the author: I really recommend not playing the harem mode until you've played it (to the extent you want to) through all the individual paths. Once you've played the harem mode, the desire to go back and play it for a girl or two is much-reduced.

As I said, though: a very, very strong game. Kudos.

Also, it's not really an anagram since the game indirectly provides you with the order you should put the letters in. But I would agree that you should get all the endings before you try the 'harem' mode.

Also, BBBen has said that he's already started working on a sequel, so there's that to look forward to.

This game sounds awesome. Unfortunately, it freezes my Adrift runner every time I try to load it. Can't figure out what's wrong...

Are you running Windows 7 by any chance? The Adrift 4.0 runner is pretty old by this point, and it has some issues with newer OSes or if the region settings are set to something other than English. I'd suggest running Adrift as an administrator and/or in XP compatibility mode. Also, make sure you're using the latest version of the runner (which was included with the download).

I definitely enjoyed this game, and I'll echo what thundergod and Das said regarding the voice work, as I thought, for the most part, it was well done when I was initially skeptical about the added content.

I have to admit Goblinboy spoiled me with his games, and I was hoping to see some nudity in the artwork, but alas, I think there was only one profile image of one woman in a state of undress. Also, along the lines of inevitable comparison, I felt that the puzzles in this game were fairly simple, and it was just a matter of waiting for the right conditions to be met to "solve" them. In this case, mostly waiting for you to have enough cash to buy a gift after you've built up the proper stats to attract the girl. I realize that's quite similar to several dating games, but I was expecting more from an AIF.

That said, the amount of work put into the game, and that there were few mistakes (I actually only noticed one and it involved a banana...) is very commendable, and hopefully we'll see more from BBBen in the future, and maybe he'll even grace us with his presence.

Haha.. after a weekend away with the gf and coming back to this forum i read your posts then looked at the letters i had and proceeded to smash my face into my monitor.

Cant believe i spent 1/2 a day thinking about it

Turns out it was the exact opposite problem, actually, My old craptop was just taking forever to load the game once I opened it in the Adrift runner, and I ctrl+alt+deleted it before it had a chance to fully load.
