gpeterson, you should try to click on the reddish link, wherever you found it. Then the rapidshare window should open. If you have no other statue than as a free user, you should click on the free downloading section. Then you will be guided by the program, what to do. It's easy.

Just so that you guys know, free rapidshare doesn't work for people in the East like me. Some problem firewall issue.

I must prefer 4shared as a place to share files.

can't you change your firewall settings to allow rapidshare?

I find SkipScreen a useful Firefox addon when using download sites - it skips unnecessary pages on quite a few sites, and speeds up site access

This is a global firewall of sorts - something to do with the service provider. It keeps giving me a message saying that I am already downloading something when I am not.
I will try SkipScreen. Thanks.

To me, Mediafire seems to be the best, I haven't had any issues with them.

Are you running Ad-Aware? Disable it before download.

I hate people that uses rapidhsare, that site ruled 5 years ago but now they just suck with their long waiting times and ridiculously low download speeds. Megaupload or mediafire is far superior.
