SD3 isn't really what I'd think of as a dating simulation since it doesn't have stats of any kind (unlike say True Love, which seems a lot closer to what you're describing).

On a more practical level, what you've described as a possibility for SD4 is effectively two games. If the PC ended up with Becky, I can't see Mike, Molly or Melissa remaining in his life. Conversely, if he ended up with Molly he can also kiss goodbye to Becky and her family. You also don't mention the possibility of the PC ending up with Alison, who is the character who has the most possibilities in my opinion.

Given that SD3 took approximately two and a half years to create, I wouldn't expect to see a game that's twice the size of that any time soon (not to mention that Goblinboy has said that he'll think twice before trying anything so ambitious ever again).

More subjectively, both of those options sound very similar to the earlier games to me. Thematically, Camping Trip is about the choice between love and sex, which was such a strong theme that it was reused for SD3 (and option 2 in your suggestion). Option 1 has a lot of similarities to SD2 (at least in outline). Neither option develops the characters in any way, they just place them in similar situations to what they've already been in.

YMMV of course.

I didn't mention Alison, because I think there is a bug in my game, I cannot get undressed during the party orgy. When I type 'remove pants' or ask Alison to remove my pants, I get a message from Molly: "Stop it, I'm not ready for that yet!", So I never get Alison ending.

Yes, my suggestions are very similar to SD3, because I like this game style! I don't want the game to be a lot different.

You said 'True Love' is a good dating simulation game. Can you tell me where I can find it?

Weird. I've never noticed that bug before, but when I tested it out with a savegame just now it happened to me. I'm happy to report that there's an easy way around it though: just type 'strip' rather than removing your clothes individually.

True Love was released in Japan in 1995, and translated into English (and German) in 1999. See here for more details. Stats and (especially) time management are what I think of when I think of a dating sim, which is why I don't feel that SD3 really fits into that genre.

I think we just have different tastes. My point of view is that it's redundant and repetitious to put the characters in situations they've already been in. I think the basic structure of SD3 (stripping away the plot and character elements) is a good one and could be used as the basis for other games with original characters and plot.

i don't think that reusing characters would necessarily lead to a repetetive and boring game. there are several series within aif that reuse the same characters, eg the sam shooter and crossworlds series, and are widely regarded within the community. as long as the characters continued to develop in an engaging way and above all the scenario itself was well written, then the game would be enjoyable.
that said i don't expect an SD4, it'd be hard to take the game further than SD3 (like you said, 2 and a half years is a long time) at all and i've enjoyed goblinboy's other projects too so i'll be waiting eagerly for whatever he releases next

I agree. I don't think that reusing characters is a bad thing. My point was that repeatedly putting the same characters in the same situations was boring to me.

Crossworlds and Sam Shooter aren't really very similar to the School Dreams series. Although they use the same characters, the indivdual games in each series are very different, especially in terms of setting. Crossworlds for example covers fantasy, sci-fi and horror over the course of the series. Camping Trip and SD3 are comparatively realistic games (at least for AIF) which rules out such sudden changes of genre. And realistically, where else would a bunch of 16-17 year olds be, other than at school?

"as long as the characters continued to develop in an engaging way and above all the scenario itself was well written, then the game would be enjoyable"

That's the big question. I just don't see where the characters can go after SD3 (with the possible exception of Alison), and I can't think of a scenario that isn't a repetition of what's gone before. Obviously I'd be happy for Goblinboy to prove me wrong.

If I remember well, you don't sell the game, you lend it. So you just have to give it to Gary

As ledino said u can loan the game to gary on the 2nd day, then during the 3rd day u can ask him to give back the game to you.

You can sell the game, but only to the shop where u buy Molly a birthday-present. If i remember correctly you can sell the game and also the magazine you find in the Headmasters office. I dont know if there is anything else you can sell.
When u go to the shop, it will ask if you wanna buy or sell something.

It was a couple of months ago i played SD3 so the answer might not be 100% true, but i think it is

I have just received Goblinboy answer about the unofficial 'Picture Pack' I made available in this forum. Here is his answer:

"Hi,

Glad you liked the game. Also thanks for the bug reports - I'll see about sorting them out for the bug release... At the moment I have no plans for an SD4 - I think the characters have gone as far as they can right now, really. I'm not categorically ruling another game out, but I certainly don't have one planned at the moment, and if I did do another game it probably wouldn't be SD4, but a spinoff game featuring just a few of the characters. But, as I say, no plans for it right now. :)

I've been thinking about how to reply to your picture pack thing, and am still undecided, really... I don't have a problem really with you putting out an unofficial picture pack, I'm just wondering if using a bunch of my pictures in it makes it seem somehow more official... Hmmm... As long as you label it clearly that you took pictures from SD3 and edited them, then that's fine. The Camping Trip version I am (intermittently) working on will have many more pictures than the few hooks available at the moment. But I'm busy working on other projects as well, so not sure when (if?) it will be finished.

Cheers!

GoblinBoy"

Slight clarification: while you can ask Gary to return the game on the 3rd day, he won't actually return it to you until you ask him on the 4th day

The computer game sells for 20 pounds, and the magazine for only 2 pounds.

As mentioned in the opening post, School Dreams 3 is a TADS game and you need a TADS interpreter to run it. HTMLTads is probably best since it handles pictures.
