Did you tell Chaotic about the errors in enddress2 & helloworld? I missed both of those.

If you read Chaotic's blog posts he doesn't say that Sarah was unfinished or untested, but he implies it pretty strongly.

On the 23rd:
"I am currently finishing the Sarah date. It is possible that she will be finished by the time I go to bed, but everything may just be uploaded in the morning."

On the 24th:
"Sarah has now been added to the site. I need to leave in 20 minutes to spend christmas with my family, but I will address any issues on Sunday when i get back.
"Hopefully enough of it works for people to have fun."

I agree that it was probably a mistake to release the game in its current state, but I don't think that Chaotic is guilty of misleading anyone.

However, in general I don't think that the fact "it's free" is a valid argument that users should happily accept poor quality games without complaint. Firstly, although no money changes hands for the non-Offsite games there is an opportunity cost involved in playing them (ie. you could be spending your time in another way). Secondly, Chaotic receives praise when his games are good. The corollary of that is that he should also expect to receive criticism when his games are not good.

I usually play online because I use Mac and downloaded games doesn't always work. I downloaded this and I mut admit that I don't know how to execute it! Can anyone tell me?

PD: I complaint about the bugs of this version, but I don't like the hard criticism about Chaotic. Maybe he shouldn't have published the game at this point, but we know he'll fix it and the result will be great. So, I can apologize with him if I sounded a bit rush in past messages.

You guys need to keep in mind that the game isn't finished nor has Chaotic claimed it was finished. Right there in the page you download the game from it says,

AT THIS MOMENT, TREAT THE GAME AS A BETA. I KNOW AT LEAST TWO ENDINGS CAN BE REACHED AS IS.

That usually means that the game isn't final and likely will have some bugs. Chaotic could have held it off but wanted to keep his promise and put it up for Christmas. However he does flat out say the game is beta.

As such, people shouldn't hold this game as a standard to his finish games or say that because of this they won't pay for offsite. His site has numerous fully completely games that you can use to judge the quality of games that you'd get in the offsite section. To judge him based on one unfinished game while ignoring the finished ones does him a great disservice.

I'm really angry! How could someone publish a game, which is full of bugs?! The problem is, you as player never can know, if you stuck, is it on part of the player or is it a bug. It should be clear, that the publisher should play his game by his own, before he let it be played by the public. With the Ariane B updates I always did so and I published the game, when it was playable. This is a principle of courteousy!

I have a mac, and I downloaded the fixes. Basically, all you have to do is take the files in the downloaded folder & move them to the original Sarah folder.

When it asks you if you want to replace the file, click "Yes To All" and when it's done replacing the files, it plays MUCH better!



Chaotic's paid site is excellent. I have no complaints.

While I doubt that Arnulf needs anyone else to defend him he has put a lot of time into supporting various games which have been flawed; and too, he has written 'plug-ins' to overcome some of those shortcomings.

Um? "as a mod"!! You cannot be seriously suggesting that because Arnulf is a moderator here he should "tone down" or not voice his criticism?

Ooohhh, life is COMPLICATED!!

I agree with both Arnulf AND PapaSmurf. It's a balancing act to figure out just how much to criticize Chaotic's work. I certainly appreciate the fact that he has made this free game for all our enjoyment and I'd like to encourage him to do more along those lines, but I'd also like to encourage him to take a little more care in editing his games before release.

I've never met Chaotic, so I don't know how much criticism he can handle before he just says "to hell with you all - you don't appreciate my work so I won't release it at all". I trust (hope) that Arnulf knows him better.

In an ideal world, I'd like to see Chaotic publish lots more games, all perfectly edited and working properly. Taking one step closer to the real world, however, I think I'd rather see him release his games with a few bugs rather than not release them at all. That will give the lagoon community an opportunity to help with feedback and/or patches.

After all, if the game was a stupid waste of time, nobody would bother complaining about it or writing patch files.
