Side note.. anyone who has an old bug would do well to get a silicone spray and spray the door seals and then use an old rag to spread it. Or just spray the rag and wipe on the seals. I just did that on the 1995 Ford I just bought and on my girlfriend's 2003 chevy. I'd do it before it gets too cold.. like right now in the northern hemisphere.
My friend sold a pair of 68-72 VW bugs to a sweet hippie couple and they would use vaseline on the seals and would rub it in. With the brazilian seals (it feels like foam) on the 72, it ruined them within a year. So he switched to silicon and with the rubber seals from Germany, he used vaseline until he was told not to by my friend after he called him over the brazilian seals! So thanks to the Brazilians, the Germans weren't ruined!
