How does this board get an image? I know how to point to it in my post. But if I point to an image on my website and then change that image on my site, will the image in my post here change? Both of the images directly above link back to "/doctor/images/doctor_121a.jpg" on your site, they have not been copied across to the Forum host server. If you right click any of the images here you and "Inspect Element", "View Image Info", or similar, then you get to see where the image actually resides.

So yes, if you make a change to an image and preserve its name then the server presents your update always referring back to you.

So Squeeky, I understand that somehow the forum server goes to my website and gets the current image. Does that mean the counter I have indicates a hit to my website each time someone here reads a post with one of my images? I don't want to drag this out but as I said I am curious.

ILSWriter, be careful. Indeed, each time a new person opens this page, the forum reaches your website to upload the picture. It's an big load for your server because it receives many requests and it can be slowed down. It is preferable to charge the pics you want to put on the forum in a pictures host like http://www.imgjoe.com/ for example.

Surely what happens is that the forum sends the page information to the browser of each person that opens it including the addresses of any images. Then each person's browser downloads any images from the provided addresses, which means that shark's server only handles the address information while ILSWriter's server bears the brunt of sending the full image data to every casual observer of the page in question.

If you can stand that sort of load on your server, ILSWriter, fine, but otherwise I would suggest you do as shark suggests and offload the task onto the likes of http://www.imgjoe.com/

When you are not directly concerned with internet traffic there are some things which are obvious but, if they don't concern you you have no idea until brought to your attention!

Most definitely consider the comments between your question to me and this.

Um? Counter time? My personal thought would be that any new initiated IP contact however directed would trigger your counter; I'm not that technically qualified to advise but that seems reasonable.

Erica, from the story, "The Doctor Is In," needs help in following her doctor's orders. She is trying to decide who to ask. Her choices, from left to right, are: her stepsister, her stepbrother, her mother, the maid, the butler or the pool boy.

I have a poll going and 30% of the respondants want her to choose her stepsister. I think they just want to see the sister's tits and not what is best for Erica. What do you think?
