Help and Advice

Postby meggymiccy » Sun, 16Jul31 04:45

Hi,

So about a year back I was inspired to try to make a game. A year later I have nothing more than a 30k word/170 passage Twine project, much more of an adult CYOA than a game, really. So, I'm here for help. First, if you're an illustrator with some spare time that might like to talk about creating/incorporating illustrations in this free project, pm me and we can see if we dig one another's styles. If you're a game-maker (or a potential game-maker) who can give me advice on how to turn this TWINE project into something better (Twine is rudimentary and easy, that's why I picked it, I guess - is it inherently bad?) I'd be grateful.

Until that happens, though, what is the easiest illustrating program out there? I realize there are a million different styles - I'm looking for something that's easy to ease into - at least until I find an illustrator to gel with. I've tried to start on a couple of illustrating programs, but within a half hour it all made my head spin. I have a pretty top-line computer, but I really don't want to spend money on a program until I find out if I have the potential of being any good (or at least passable). Anyhow, if you're interested in any of this, or can offer advice, please pm.

Thanks for your consideration,

MM

I think you might find help by reading stuff in this section of our forum viewforum.php?f=30

Personally i think for starters, using photos from the net or screenshots from porn is the easiest. It's not my favorite, i do prefer own artwork

You don't necessarily need art to have a successful game. For example, the adult text game New Life is more successful at crowdfunding than all the illustrated adult games I've seen here.

If you can't find any illustrators in the end, why don't you submit your game to the AIF community? The AIF community is dedicated to text-focused adult games, and the people there greatly enjoy Twine games. In fact, I'm currently running an event called the AIF Writing Salon at the AIF Central blog to help writers make their text-based adult games. We're at the stage where people are starting to post their games for playtesting by others so that they can get feedback. I invite you to post a link to your game in the comments of the AIF Central blog to get some feedback on your game. Your game doesn't have to be complete or perfect. And posting it there won't prevent you from adding some illustrations later on and reposting it elsewhere.

Thank you both so much. I'm in the process of trying to polish it with some help from others here. I really appreciate the opinion and advice. Maybe I can make a couple of versions to cater to several tastes.

Again, thanks,
