I don't know how many people will be interested, but the rules and deadline for the AIF Minicomp 2011 were announced last week.

The deadline is May 16, 2011
The rules can be found here

If you're not thinking about entering you may still be interested in voting. Based on past years the games will be released a day or so after the submission deadline, and the deadline for voting will be around May 31.

ExLibris, Thank you for posting here on the Lagoon, I missed the notification of the start of the new Minicomp. My sine are not worth putting up but I do enjoy the entries.

Reposted from the aifarchive Yahoo group:

Welcome to the 2011 AIF Mini-comp. We have 7 games for your playing enjoyment this year. I think we have a pretty good mix of genres and types of game, and some pretty good ones to boot. Without further ado, here are the games.

Ashley's Story by Rip_CPU (Inform 7 - Blorbed Z code)
Buffy: Before the Date by Archer (ADRIFT 3.9)
Last Horizons by GoblinBoy (TADS 2)
The Princess and the Dragon by RogueAIF (TADS 3)
Redskirt II: Another Piece of the Action by Begferdeth (Inform 7 - Blorbed Z code)
SS Whore by The Blue Satyr (ADRIFT 4)
The Wingman by Dark Horse (ADRIFT 3.9)

The games are packaged together in a file called "2011minicomp.zip". It is in the files section, under comps at both AIFGames.com, and the AIF Archive. You can also download it from the Inside Erin site here:
http://newsletter.aifcommunity.org/2011minicomp.zip

In addition to diversity of the games themselves, there was also good sprinkling of game systems used to create them. For those of you who may not already have the interpreters to play them all, here is where you can find them.

You can find the ADRIFT interpreters at the ADRIFT website here:
http://www.adrift.org.uk/cgi/new/adrift.cgi
Click "Older Versions" at the bottom of the page for a 3.9 version.

For the TADS games, you can find downloads for both versions 2 and 3 here:
http://www.tads.org/

There are tons of interpreters out there for the z-code games. Personally, I use WinFrotz to play them, but you can find lots of options at the site below. Just click on your operating system on the left for a list of downloads.
http://www.inform-fiction.org/zmachine/interpreters.html

The voting ballot is set up and ready to go. Once you have played the games, don't forget to drop by and show your support by voting for your favorites. If you weren't around last year, we've streamlined the process now and you only have to vote for your top three games in each category so it should be even less trouble than it used to be.

When you're ready, you can vote here:
http://newsletter.aifcommunity.org/minicomp/

Finally, if you enjoy the games, why don't you consider sending the authors a little feedback?

Yes, Fleet! They are not executable files!

@ExLibris: Thanks for providing the links for those who feel like giving AIF a try!

Cheers!

Buffy: Before the Date has generated a lot of discussion on the aifarchive group, so I suggest you check there if you have any further problems. I'd also suggest reading the text file that's included with the game, as it lists a number of the commands that are necessary in the game.

As for the remote... you'll need to search something in the living room.
Specifically the couch

Is there any way to have sex with anyone other than Shiana in Last Horizons? If so, how?

Thanks.

The rules of the minicomp restrict each game to only two sexually interactive characters, in this case the PC and Shiana. However, it is possible to have a non-interactive scene with both Teisha and Kesya, although the latter isn't specifically sexual.

For Teisha, admire her body (ie. examine the various parts), ask her about herself and yourself, then work up to asking her about various bodyparts, and finally sex

I managed to get to Teisha's scene. But nothing with Kesya. Any clues?

The closest you get is when the PC and Shiana strip search Kesya

However, Goblinboy has been talking about releasing an expanded version once the minicomp ends. Speaking of which, voting will probably close on the 1st, so if you've played the games please vote: http://newsletter.aifcommunity.org/minicomp/

Thanks for the tip. And yes I voted.
I wish I had played all games to the end, but I managed to do it only for "Ashley's Story", "Last Horizons", "The Princess And The Dragon", and "The Wingman". In "SS Whore" and "Redskirt II" we play a female character, it means no fun to me, so I didn't play them. "Buffy Before The Date" had no walkthrough and I got stuck at the beginning. I turned on the TV but I cannot even watch it.
So I had to consider only those 4 games I mentioned, when voting.

Thanks for voting :)

Someone on the aifarchive group posted a walkthrough for Buffy. Good thing too, I would never have got the 'best' ending without it. I'll PM it to you if you feel like having another go.
