Awesome game. Any tips out there for this newest release? Not a walkthrough, just a little nudge in the right direction for somebody that hasn't played the previous versions.

If you check the blog, you can find the post on the new release, where I usually list the main changes from the previous version, that might be useful. There is also an incomplete walkthrough hosted at the blog, and there is a wiki, but the activity there is pretty low, so I don't know how much you can get out of it.

Can not get this to run using the files listed in OP (Rags v. 2.4.14.0 and Tales of the Drunken Cowboy chapter 1 0.8h.rag). Rags gives following error: "Sorry, this RAGS game file is unreadable", error received both when trying to start directly from game file and with Rags (Open A New Game in file menu).

Running windows 7.

Check the file attribs on read-only status from download. RAGS uses game-files in a way that is interpreted as edit by system, so it often gives a new date for example.
Removing read-only should fix your prob.

Also, try downloading the game a second time. For some reason, RAGS files get often corrupted during download, no idea why.

Thank you for your suggestions however neither proved to be the solution. I have tried downloading the game file on four separate occasions now without success. The game file I have downloaded does not seem to be in read-only mode by default.

sorry to hear, making it read-only produced to me exactly your error message. Do you have probs with other RAGS games, which use RAGS beta 2.4.14-16? Can you check if you meet the .NET and other prerequisites of RAGS?

Microsoft .net Framework should be up to date, v. 4.5.1 installed. I have tried browsing the Rags forums, without much success, if no one else has any suggestions I will try contacting this Steve.

Update: I found the solution for on the RAGS forums. Besides the Microsoft .net Framework you also need to have the SQL Server Compact 3.5 (Service Pack 2) installed. If you are running an x64 machine you will have to install first the x86 version then the x64 version.

Hi folks, i am having some trouble with RAGS & this game (well its the only one i played in RAGS so don't know for the others), when i try the 2.4.14- or .16 version of RAGS it wont even load, just some flickers on the screen & nothing more.
Installed both Microsoft .net Framework v. 4.5.1 & SQL Server Compact 3.5 (Service Pack 2) as mentioned before ( running on win 8.1 x64).
When i try the latest version of Rags Suite ALPHA 3.0.21.0, it play the game but without any graphics(pictures) or sound & sometimes when i want to examine something it pops a error & says its best to be played with the 2.4 version ( the one i can't even load ).

Any clue or help is appreciated

Using the latest version is not recommended, it's in alpha for a reason.

I don't know for sure if it's a compatibility issue with windows 8, I never heard about the screen flickering before, though, so I am very confused about this.

You could try downloading the web version (it has a few more bugs compared to the normal version, but if you can't run that one at all, this might be worth a shot):

You just need a web browser to play this one, so you should be fine with it.
